Sacred Earth Wellness - Reflexology

Reflexology is acupressure applied to the feet to stimulate circulation, reduce tension and return the body to its natural state.
There are zones and reflex areas in the feet and hands which correspond to all body parts. The physical act of applying specific pressures using thumb, finger and hand techniques results in stress reduction which causes physiological changes in the body.

What are the benefits of Reflexology?  As we know, too much stress in our lives can result in illness or dis-ease. One of reflexology’s primary benefits is the reduction of stress in the body thereby promoting relaxation. Reflexology also increases circulation and restores the body to homeostasis (its natural state).

What is a Reflexology session like? A client who comes in for a reflexology session removes his/her shoes and is placed in a comfortable chair in a room that has been set up to promote relaxation. With the client sitting in a reclined position, the reflexologist begins with some simple relaxation techniques while discussing the clients’ health history. Then, finger and thumb techniques are used to apply acupressure to the feet, stimulating reflex points that correspond to the entire network of body parts. For the most part these sessions are very relaxing. However, if you are experiencing stress within your body you may experience some discomfort. It is important that both you and the reflexologist communicate how things are feeling for you. Usually tenderness is a sign that congestion exists within the body and the reflexologist can work lighter in these areas until the tenderness subsides.

Why do people get reflexology? Clients come to a certified reflexologist to get relief from a variety of conditions, including: diabetes, stress and stress-related conditions, digestive disorders, headaches, hormonal imbalances, low back pain, sore and tired feet, urinary disorders, respiratory conditions, and much more. Those with diabetes find the improved circulation to their feet invaluable. Reflexology is also used for post-operative and palliative care. A study in the American Cancer Society Journal found that one-third of cancer patients used reflexology as a complementary therapy.
