The Untouched Day

The full moon lowering, slipping down toward the horizon
Relinquishing itself for another day

The time between days is an interesting time
The wind blows, clearing out the energy
so that everyone can start fresh again

The leaves rustling as the wind's breath
blows through the trees
Nature is otherwise silent.

The stars glimmer in the sky
The street lamps illuminating the asphalt
yet dimming all that is beautiful

The river is silent, yet
The ripples cover its surface

It's time to go
the day is awakening
peace makes way for the cars
trailing in the distance
the geese begin to call out
and the alarm that I didn't need
on this last and first day

The street lamps
designed to make me feel safe
attempt to illuminate
the fear we're told to have
I would give anything to have the switch
to turn off these lights, for I feel safest
under the stars.
